Market Day
This is another in a series of paintings from Bolivia. The scene for this one is a small village on the outskirts of Sucre. The woman has filled her shawl with vegetables to sell and is headed off to market walking through her village. We saw scenes like this everywhere on a daily basis. The local villagers are industrious people and they make use of their small plots of land to grow extra vegetables to sell. She is dressed in the traditional clothing of her area of Bolivia; a Fedora hat, shawl, skirt and sweater, and a shawl for carrying items and sandals.
This work is painted on Ampersand gessobord in oil. It is varnished to protect the surface and sold unframed.
